I am concentrating on the X-Men who travel to Muir Island because their subplot is important to an upcoming issue with the Juggernaut. I could care less about Storm and Wolverine being hunted by elderly vigilantes.

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.

As I'm supposed to be in a training course at the moment, with a soothing yet informative voice on Teams lulling me as much as it is educating me, so I shall try to be short and snappy here.

Which is perhaps more than can be said for this weeks season finale of Doctor Who which was... cramming a LOT of things into even an extended runtime. A lot of rot13 here, so sorry about that

New episodes of Phineas and Ferb start this week!

It is Pride Month, which we shall make a separate post about shortly as this year, perhaps more than most recent years, needs to be emphasised.

Though (and I admit itt rainbow capitalism) I will mention that this years Disney's Pride Month Droid is C1-RN8W, a black variation of Chopper from Rebels, with rainbow accents which, given Chopper's general disposition, seems to make "Be gay, do crimes! the subtext here.

Summary:

Last Fall is over Ruatha, so Moreta brings the official word to the Lady who has slipped into her heart.

Last Fall (Future Promises)

Orlith back-winged delicately on the courtyard, followed by Hannath and Nabeth. Their draconic jubilation was shining in blue-green faceted eyes as all three riders started unbuckling their riding straps to get down and greet the Lady of the Hold and those that were waiting with supplies to aid the end of flight.

"Lord Alessan is still out with crews?" B'lerion asked.

"Of course!" Nerilka called back, before pushing klah into Moreta's hands, having reached her swiftly.

"I am pleased to report, Lady Nerilka," the Fort Weyrwoman began, "that the lands are clear, and this should be the final Fall of the Pass."

A ringing cheer went up from the drudges and other staff that had followed their beloved Lady out to tend the trio.

Nerilka's hands were still around Moreta's gloved ones. "We are grateful for the reassurance," she said warmly, looking up with adoration at the older woman. "And extend our invitation to come visit, once the Weyr is certain."

"I'll pass that on to all parties," she said, her own eyes locked on Nerilka's face. She could hear Oklina and B'lerion briefing Tuero on which areas might have injured crews coming back — far fewer than some Falls, by the egg! — even as she was looking forward to a true Rest Day spent here.

"Though I am sure K'lon will spend more time at Igen," Nerilka said with a smile. "We don't want to keep you; I know you usually tend the wounded with my sister over there."

"So we do, but the weyr-healer has been handling what is needed today; Orlith listens for me," Moreta promised, sipping the klah gratefully. "Sh'gall was handling personally informing your Holder at Ruatha River Hold; the clumping is always worse near rivers and seas."

The words were a necessary courtesy, but Sh'gall did not come to Ruatha if he had reason to be elsewhere, even if he had mellowed with Moreta choosing to let him Lead through the end of Pass. He was even more uncomfortable with her choices for companionship than with his blue and green mated pairs.

"I'll have your rooms aired soon," Nerilka said far more quietly as Moreta finished the klah. Orlith's croon still made Nerilka blush a little, even so many years after coming to the startling awareness that they suited one another.

"I'll pass word before I come; I have invitations from all the major and minor holds, some not even beholden to Fort!" Moreta's laughter was contagious, and Nerilka was so glad of that.

How far they all had come since their trials eight Turns prior.

"Save the best for last," Nerilka had the temerity to say, taking the mug back so Moreta could mount again.

"Duty, so pleasure can linger."

That heightened the blush, and Tuero bit his tongue as he joined her, so that he didn't tease her too hard.

It was known, in Ruatha's main hold, that the Weyrwoman visited often, and why, but not a breath was whispered elsewhere. This was theirs, much as it was their Lady's, to have the heroine of all Pern so tied to them.

In minutes, all three riders were strapped in, their dragons leaping for the Thread-cleared skies and winking out, their final duty to Pern done for this generation.

Flash #18 - "As the Universe"

One thing I’ve often found useful, working in shared universes, is what I think of as Featuring A Bug. What I mean by that is: think long and hard about the big Event Stuff going in, and there’s almost always gonna be plot holes, unanswered questions, uncertain pivots. So you simply make those things your story. Answer the question, plug the hole, explain the pivot. Hey presto: you’re being a good soldier, helping the wider universe retain its coherence. But you’re also doing so in a unique way. If you can also make that story support the threads you wanted to weave as part of your own book’s narrative, abracadabra: you’ve turned a bug into a feature. All of which is to say: I’ve been trusted to apply my own sideways-thinking weirdness to the book so far, and am therefore more than happy to field the curveballs from above, and sling them back with added glitter. -- Si Spurrier

My warped mind always equated Richard Dragon as DC's version of Chuck Norris, but I don’t believe Dragon ever became a tired old meme. If anything, his supporting cast proved to be more memorable than he was.
